LOCAL HISTORY
A Little Alien History Close to Home 👽
Just 16 miles west of Justin sits the small town of Aurora, Texas — home to one of North Texas’ strangest legends. On April 17, 1897, a mysterious cigar-shaped airship reportedly crashed onto the farm of S.E. Haydon, destroying his windmill and sparking curiosity across the community.
The only casualty? The pilot of that unusual flying machine. And, in true Texas fashion, the folks of Aurora did the most polite thing they could think of — they gave the visitor a proper burial in the local cemetery.
If you visit today, the historical marker still nods to the story:
“This site is also well known because of the legend that a spaceship crashed nearby in 1897 and the pilot killed in the crash was buried here.”
You’d think it would be simple enough to dig up the mystery and get some answers, but there’s one small problem — to exhume a body, you have to notify the next of kin. And so far, no one in Texas has stepped up claiming to be related to that otherworldly pilot.
That’s a Wrap for This Week!
Have a fantastic week, Justin! We can’t wait to hear from you—send your local stories, events, or fun happenings to [email protected] and we might feature them next time.
