Remember When… Justin’s Water Took an Unexpected Pause?
Justin doesn’t see water issues often—but when something does happen, it definitely gets everyone’s attention.
Back in late February, a construction crew struck a major water line, triggering a citywide issue that quickly escalated beyond just a repair job. The break caused a loss of system pressure across Justin, which meant the Texas Commission on Environmental Quality (TCEQ) had to step in—bringing boil water notices and a few days of uncertainty for residents.
From February 28 through March 3, crews worked to repair the damage, restore pressure, and complete the required testing to make sure everything was safe again. Not exactly the kind of “infrastructure update” anyone gets excited about.
But here’s where it gets interesting…
In response, the City put a stop order on the project tied to the incident. Construction hit pause while the responsible company works through covering damages and meeting additional conditions set by the City.
The good news? That pause is expected to be temporary.
Word is construction could resume within the next week or two, getting things back on track for the much-anticipated development at the corner—yes, we’re talking about QuikTrip, McDonald's, and O'Reilly Auto Parts.
So while the hiccup may have slowed things down, it didn’t stop progress altogether—just another chapter in Justin’s ongoing growth story.

HISTORY
The Abbey
Located in the heart of Old Town, The Country Abbey is one of Justin’s most historic and meaningful landmarks—serving the community in different ways for more than 125 years.
Its story begins after an 1896 tornado devastated much of Justin, including the town’s school. In response, local residents came together to invest in education, building Pennington College in 1898. Though technically a preparatory school, it played a key role in shaping early Justin before closing in 1913 as public schooling expanded.
The building was then donated to Justin Baptist Church, a congregation established in 1901, which began meeting there in 1914. For decades, it served as a central gathering place for worship, community events, and everyday life. Early services were simple—curtains divided the space for Sunday school, windows stayed open to catch the breeze, and a potbelly stove provided heat in the winter. Over time, additions like the balcony, foyer, and brick exterior modernized the structure while preserving its core.
In 2002, the church relocated, and the historic building entered a new chapter. It was purchased and transformed into The Abbey, a wedding and events venue that carefully blends historic character with modern updates—most notably its handcrafted stained-glass windows.
Today, The Abbey remains a cornerstone of Old Town Justin—a place where generations have gathered, from classrooms to church pews to wedding aisles, continuing a legacy of community, connection, and celebration.
That’s your weekly scoop—go have some fun, skip the housework (we won’t tell), and maybe try something new while you’re at it.
And don’t forget to follow along for all things Justin Decides 👀—plus, mark your calendar for the Mayoral Debate on April 14. It’s one event you won’t want to miss.
